Obituary

Genevieve M. Everett, 102, of Avondale, Arizona, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, April 4, at her daughter’s home, of natural causes.

She was born May 6, 1917, in Lakeville, Minn., the daughter of Francis and Winifred McCunniff Duffy. She married Richard G. Everett on January 20, 1940 in Fairbank; he died September 28, 2000.

Genevieve graduated in 1936 from Immaculate Conception High School in Fairbank. She was employed as a Central Supply Technician at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo. Genevieve lived in Fairbank for 22 years, Waterloo for 74, and her remaining years were spent in Avondale, Ariz.

Survivors include: a son, Richard (Diane) Everett of Waterloo; two daughters, Mary Jane Lampert of Avondale, Ariz., and Sue Ann (Clay) Underdown of Cave Creek, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded by: her parents, her husband, son-in-law, Ralph Lampert, brother, Clifton Duffy, and sister, Verle Leehey.

Services: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic a private family graveside service will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery. A Christian memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers being sent, donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014, or online at hov.org/donate/

“Genevieve was a talented sewist, often using her talent to mend for family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed dancing, often going to the Janesville or Oelwein Ballrooms. Genevieve looked forward to the yearly family reunions that kept her in touch with everyone. She was her husband’s biggest fan at his fast pitch softball games, an avid Pinochle player and a watcher of Lawrence Welk. Genevieve was a devoted Christian, always carrying her rosary, spending time in prayer and attending communion once a week.”
