Funeral services for Earl W. Lee, 87, of 1821 E. 4th St., a resident of Waterloo for more than 50 years and known during that period as the "Hot Tamale Man" will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church.
Mr. Lee was retired from the Rath Packing Co., where he was employed for more than 37 years. Throughout his half century residence here, in addition to his regular employment and after his retirement, he was a familiar figure on the street selling hot tamales from a basket.
Mr. Lee was born on May 1, 1883 in Water Valley, Miss., the son of Jeff and Angeline Lee. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the oldest deacon of that church.
He married Miss Ida Cooper in Waterloo in 1945. He is survived by his wife, at home; three brothers, Willie Lee of Waterloo, Bennie Lee of Water Valley and Jessie Lee of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Lily Williams of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Dora Humble of Chicago and Mrs. Lottie Wright of Water Valley.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, his first wife, three brothers, three sisters and his parents.
Friends may call at the Johnson Funeral Home Friday and until 10 a.m. Saturday.
