Austin G. "Dutch" Dietz

Services for Austin G. "Dutch" Dietz, 66, of 530 Boston Ave., will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel with burial in Garden of Memories; with full military rites by Becker-Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

He died of cancer Sunday, March 27, at Covenant Medical Center at West Ninth Street.

He was born March 27, 1922, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of John W. and Sophia Mellman Dietz. He married Marie E. Van Riper on May 25, 1946, in Nashua.

He worked in the sausage department at Rath Packing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II from 1943 until 1945, including tours of duty overseas. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Silver Battle Star. He was a member of the Naval Reserves for eight years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters: Judith Manross of Denver, Barbara Wildebuer of Waterloo and Betty Trueg of Evansdale; a brother, Loren Dietz of Evansdale; a sister, Ruth Milks of Waterloo; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral chapel, 3655 Logan Ave.

Memorials may be made to the Covenant Cancer Treatment Center.
