Biography

Rosie Lee Bruce, age 77, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday, June 23, 2019 at her home.

She was born December 31, 1941 in Durant, Mississippi; the daughter of LB and Johnnie Lee Simmons Brown. Rosie was a 1961 graduate of Durant, MS High School. She married Robert L. Bruce in 1961, in Waterloo, they were later divorced.

She worked as a Teacher’s Aid in Waterloo Community Schools, retiring in 1979. Rosie also worked at Waterloo Industries and Kleen Maid Bakery. She was a member of Faith Temple Baptist Church where she was a member of the Church Mother’s Board. She loved hanging out with her good friends and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Lain Riley) Bruce and Ursula (Le-Noard) Holmes both of Waterloo; one sister, Pearl Magee of Rockford, Illinois; five grandchildren: Shateisha Bruce, Branayla Tate, Kiri Holmes, Manisha Seenster and JaeVon Holmes all of Waterloo; five great-grandchildren: Sredrick, Charles Jr., Kyri, JaRius and Kyle all of Waterloo; nieces, Felecia Brown of Alabama, Julia (Larry) Tillman of Waterloo, Gwen Forrest, Erika Magee and Sataria Foster all of Rockford, Illinois.

Preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Susie Foster; and by a nephew, Derek Brown-Simmons.

Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 234 S. Hackett Rd., Waterloo

Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo at a later date.
