Heaviest Man in Iowa Buried.
Adam Strubel, heaviest man in Iowa, was buried at Eagle Center. He died In his restaurant at Hudson. He weighed 500 pounds and the casket was made to order, being thirty inches wide, eight feet long, and two feet deep. The coffin was too large for the hearse lowering device, and eight handles with strap attachments were required for the pall bearers The undertakers were obliged to cut away a portion of the bedroom wall at the doorway to get the body out. Strubel was forty-three years old and did farm work until he got too heavy.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was buried in Saint Mary’s of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Waterloo and that he was born February 2, 1866 and died July 4, 1908.
