Audrey Fern Warneka, age 98, of Madrid, Iowa was called Home to be with the lord on Tuesday May 7, 2019.
Audrey was born in Stewartville, Minnesota to Wilbert and Laura McHenry. Audrey spent her childhood in Rochester, Minnesota and graduated from Rochester High School in June, 1938.
She met the love of her life, Floyd Warneka on Palm Sunday, 1935 at the age 14. She had a long distance courtship with Floyd, who traveled often from Waterloo to Rochester on the weekends. They were married on September 7, 1940 in Rochester and moved into a house that Floyd built in Waterloo, Iowa.
Audrey and Floyd had four children: Kent (Carol) Warneka deceased in 1998; Walter “Lee” (Cathie) Warneka of Kingman, Arizona; Ann (Ron) Johnson of New Brighten, Minnesota; and Trudy (Bob) Mann of Ankeny, Iowa.
Audrey and Floyd were married 54 years. Floyd passed away on March 9th, 1995.
When Audrey was 35, she realized she needed Jesus Christ to be her personal savior. She accepted Christ’s gift of salvation, through his faith in his death, burial and resurrection. Because of this she lived with the assurance of being with him in heaven upon her death.
Audrey attended Grace Baptist Church in Evansdale/ Waterloo. She sang in the choir for 25 years and was Sunday School secretary for 12 years. She loved music and would often have her radio on. Enjoying the songs of “yester years” and gospel music.
She moved from Waterloo in 2009 to Huxley, Iowa to be closer to her daughter, Trudy.
Audrey worked with Floyd as a custodian at Jewett School, in Evansdale, for 10 years. Floyd joined the police department in 1960 and served Evansdale for 20 years. Audrey worked at the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Credit Bureau for 14 years. She then worked as a clerk in the Clerk of Courts Office of Black Hawk County for 3 years until she retired.
Audrey enjoyed fishing, singing, baking, reading, good music and making people laugh.
She had 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
