Evelyn Mae Barnhart

Evelyn Mae Barnhart was born on June 16, 1931 to Robert and Veronica (Traidl) Reiter. She was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, spending her whole life in the area.

Evelyn married Ray Barnhart on March 19, 1949 at St. Mary’s Church in Waterloo. The couple welcomed six children into their lives. During that time, Evelyn worked at home as a homemaker and mother to her children.
Later, she began to drive a school bus for the Waterloo Public School System.

Evelyn then greatly enjoyed her retirement, spending much of her time with friends and family. She loved working in her flower garden, decorating her home, shopping, and playing cards. She also enjoyed baking and will be remembered for her wonderful cakes and her great sense of humor. She was a caring mother, grandmother, and friend and was loved by all. Evelyn loved her family and friends dearly and cherished being able to keep in touch with everyone!

Evelyn Mae Barnhart died on April 28, 2019, at Mercy One Hospital at the age of 87.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Ray; two brothers: Lawrence and Arnold Reiter; her longtime companion: Charles Hammett Jr; and son-in-law: Greg Riggert.

Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her six children: Linda Riggert, Darwin (Rhonda) Barnhart, Patricia Thompson, Pamela (Gary) Peverill, Brenda Barnhart and Debra (Joseph) Heim; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
