Irene Mae Gleason

Irene Mae Gleason was born in Luverne, Iowa on May 1, 1922. She was the daughter of Fred and Caroline Behnkendorf. Irene attended and graduated from beauty school in Des Moines, Iowa with her sister Lucille Psilas. She later worked as a secretary in the Waterloo school system for 26 years.

Irene was proud of raising four Marines. She had a heart of gold and was always loving and respectful to family and friends. She was a great mother and beautiful lady.

She will be missed greatly and has passed on to be with other loved ones. Irene passed away exactly 30 years to the date from her husband Edward, who passed away on April 25, 1989.

Irene passed away April 25, 2019, surrounded by her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, an infant son Frederick and her eldest son Richard, her brother Oscar and her sister Lucille who recently passed at 100 years old.

Irene survived by her three sons, James(Julie) of Waterloo, David (Mary) of Waverly and Joe of Waterloo. Irene had a gaggle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
