Danny Dean Rhoads was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on November 30, 1952, to parents Olen and Florence (Keeth) Rhoads. He attended schools in the Waterloo area and graduated from West High School in the class of 1970.

After high school, he enlisted in 1971 for the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While Danny was serving as a FR he gained multiple achievements such as the National Defense Service Medal, and both the Vietnam Campaign and Service medals. After an honorable discharge, he continued to work in the Waterloo/ Cedar Falls area as the Chief Engineer at the University of Northern Iowa Powerplant until his passing.

Danny enjoyed a great variety of outdoor activities including hunting and polishing rocks, bike riding, walking on nature trails, fishing, kayaking, and disc golf. He also built sea shell houses and would pic the guitar. Danny loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Danny Dean Rhoads died on Monday, December 24, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 66.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son: Steven Rhoads.

Left to cherish Danny’s memory are his two sons: Nathan (Sara) and Patrick both of Waterloo; one daughter: Sherry Chandler; three brothers: Larry (Karen) and Patrick of Waterloo, and Michael Rhoads of Central City. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
