Edith Rae Dunfee

Edith Rae Dunfee (Schlampp) was born on October 10, 1947 to Roy and Ione (McInroy) Schlampp at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo. She grew up in Waterloo and attended school at Lafayette. For much of Edith’s life, she spent her time caring and nurturing her three beloved children. Once they had grown, Edith began to share her talent of cooking with the world by becoming a prep cook at The Brown Bottle in Waterloo, finishing there in 1991.

From then, until the time she retired in 2000, Edith became a CNA and worked for Surecare as a Private Care Provider. She enjoyed her time that she was able to spend with her patients and they appreciated her caring attitude. Edith enjoyed solving crossword puzzles but her true passion was cooking. Her family will forever remember her for the elaborate meals that she prepared, her famous ham and chicken gravy, her cookies that were unable to be replicated, and the many recipes that she handed down through the years.

Edith Rae Dunfee (Schlampp) died on August 27, 2018 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home at the age of 70, surrounded by her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert “Bob” Wandro; one brother, Robert “Bob” Schlampp; and one sister, Rita Schlampp.

Left to cherish Edith’s memory is her son, Brian (Rita) Wandro of Manassas, VA; her daughter, Michelle (Bill) Billington of Traer; one brother, Cecil Schlampp of Knoxville. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Jasmine Wandro, Michael (Tiffany) Stokes, and Megan (Nick) Kalinay; and one great-grandchild who came into this world the day Edith passed, Hunter Joseph Kalinay.
