Obituary for James F. Nicholas Sr

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - James F. Nicholas Sr., 88, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Cedar Falls Healthcare Center.

He was born November 14, 1929, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Fred and Magdalona Albietz Nicholas Sr. He married Virginia E. Ilax in October 4, 1950 in Albert Lea, MN. She died July 4, 2014.

James graduated from Waterloo West High School and was employed as a vending machine technician with Coca Cola and VendaFoods, retiring in 1986.

He is survived by four daughters: Linnea (Dan) Ulrich of Cedar Falls, Mary (Greg) Love of New Hartford, Jean (Kent) Melick of Cedar Falls, and Anna Nicholas of Cedar Falls; by three sons: Andy (Cathy) of Denver, Ted (Kim) of Denver, and Jim (Karen) of Albuquerque, NW; six grandchildren: Matt, Jennifer, Ethan, Victoria, Lauren, and Nicole; a great-grandchild, Kalena; and a brother, Fred (Del Rita) Nicholas of Maggie Valley, NC.

He was preceded in death by by three brothers: Ernest, Frank, and George Nicholas; and a sister, Marion Weires.

Visitation for 10 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo. Military honors provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 and the Iowa Army National Guard.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hartman Reserve Nature Center or Cedar Valley Hospice.
