Obituary for Virginia D. Sachau

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Virginia Wiley Sachau 97, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Western Home Communities.

She was born January 2, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, daughter of Arthur and Dora (Miller) Wiley. She married Robert Sachau on November 2, 1943. He preceded her in death in 2003.

She graduated from high school in Washington, Iowa. After World War II, the couple moved to Park Forest Illinois where Virginia worked as a secretary to Philip Klutznick, urban developer and President of B’nai B’rith International.

Survived by: two sons, Rev. Larry (Renee) Sachau of Oklahoma City, OK and Dr. Daniel (Beth) Sachau of Mankato, MN; four grandchildren, Christina Dunneman, Scott Sachau, Johnathan Sachau, and Madeline Sachau; and four great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Cindy Sachau Van Nice (2018); and a sister, Mabel “Sally” Hotle.

Combined Memorial Services will be held for Virginia and Cindy Sachau Van Nice, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7th at Nazareth Lutheran Church - Larsen Chapel in Cedar Falls. Family will receive friends at a lunch following the service.

Virginia and her family moved to Waterloo Iowa in 1962 where Virginia was active in the church, P.E.O., as well as state and local Women’s Clubs.
