Ronald William Joslyn

February 23, 1937 - December 11, 2017

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Ronald William “Bill” Joslyn, 80, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Monday, December 11, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Idaho Falls.

He was born February 23, 1937 in Independence, Iowa, son of Ronald Scanlon and Luella Mae (Severn) Joslyn.

He graduated from Teachers College High School in 1955; earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from State College of Iowa in 1964 and his Masters from the University of Northern Iowa in 1990. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a member of the Cedar Falls police force for over 25 years, retiring in 1993.

Ronald is survived by four daughters, Denise Joslyn (Christopher) Larsen of Idaho Falls, ID, Lisa Diane DeLaTorre of Torrance, CA, Brenda Lianne Wright of Peoria, AZ, and Leah Grace Joslyn of Chicago, IL; a son, Eric William (Laura) Joslyn of Tempe, AZ; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Verner Joslyn; and a great-grandson, Evan Eugene Wright.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Funeral Honors detail and the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 Honor Guard, as well as honors by the Cedar Falls Police Department. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children (donate.lovetotherescue.org OR Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607).

An avid sports fan, “Jos”, as people called him, followed local high school teams, UNI Panthers, University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota professional teams and the Chicago Cubs. He loved to research his genealogy, drink Pepsi, dine at MAID-RITE, spend time with his family, and raise German Shepherds and other dogs.
