Helen E. Tyler

Helen E. Tyler (Frickson) was born on November 3, 1930 to Dick and Mildred (Axline) Frickson in Waterloo. Helen attended school in Waterloo at East High School.

She was married to Leonard Earl Tyler on September 13, 1951 in Dubuque. The two welcomed 16 children into their family. Helen worked in the fish market, at Midwest Provisims and Columbus High School in food service and was an extremely hard worker. Helen retired in September of 2005 and spent her time playing cards and riding in the car. Helen loved animals, especially her cats and had an extremely generous heart. She was also proud of all of her children’s accomplishments and cherished the time that she was able to spend with her family.

Helen E. Tyler died on Monday, May 7, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 87.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1999; five sons: Jody, Richard, Mike, Lester, and James; her siblings: Betty (Leonard) Parker and Bob (Annie) Frickson; Son-in-law: Bob Rinnels; and daughter-in-law: Teri Tyler.

Helen is survived by 11 children: Debbie Plunkett of Waterloo, Carlah (Jim) Apfel of Waterloo, Russell Tyler of Evansdale, Mildred Rinnels of Waukoma, Tammy (Dan Mulholland) Tangen of Decorah, Violette (Scott Reavis) Tyler of Dunkerton, Robert Tyler of Waterloo, Matthew (Rachael) Tyler of Waterloo, Larissa (Billy) Deeds of Waterloo, Beth Amo of Waterloo, and Kurt Coburn of Waterloo; 41 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
