Keith Burton Borglum

November 11, 1926 - April 26, 2018

Keith Burton Borglum born on November 11, 1926 to Coronel and Bess (Strike) Borglum in Nashua, Iowa passed at his home in Windhaven at the Western Home Communities on April 26th, 2018.

At his family farm Keith was the youngest of four boys and adored his brothers. In 1940 he moved with his family to New Hartford and graduated in 1944. He went on to attend Iowa State University along with a few other schools to study engineering. He was proud of his life long involvement in the Freemasons and the Shriners. He aspired to grow up and be an inventor and engineer. Keith then started several businesses until he found his true calling and in his passion for engineering started Kay Industries in 1954, in Janesville, IA, which is still in operation today.

In 1960 he met Joyce Nettleton, while dancing at the Electric Park Ball Room and Keith said he knew right away that she was the one he would marry.

They were wed on September 21, 1960 in Galena, Illinois. They were married for 55 years when Joyce passed in late 2016. Keith (an avid lover of honey) would often joke with his great-grandchildren that Joyce was his favorite honey of all.

Keith loved airplanes and got his pilot’s license in 1968 and could often be found flying his Cessna airplane. He had a passion for learning and discovering new ways to engineer and improve things. Anyone that knew Keith knew how much he loved to tinker with things and he could always be found inspecting and questioning the way things were built and asking himself if there was a better way.

Keith prided himself if inventing things that would stand up to the test of time. The things he engineered weren’t always flashy, but they were solid and reliable and the same could be said for him. As the patriarch of the Borglum family, which consists of three sons, their wives, eleven grandchildren, many spouses and twelve great grandchildren, Keith was a strong, reliable, and loving role model and an endless source of support and encouragement.

He is survived by his son Mike (Jo) Borglum of St Charles, MO, their children Brooks (Tasha), Kyle (Kristi) their children Austin and Adelyn, and Jennifer. Chris (Danice) Borglum of Cedar Falls, their children Lytishya (Liz) and their children Jaclynn, Kayden, Berlyn, Christian, Kherrigan and Landon, Brandee and her sons Marly and Marshall, Tanner (Lindy), Summer, and Kristyn (James), Larry (Lisa) Borglum of Janesville, IA their children Amanda Ann (Ryan) Stark their daughters Aaliyah and Jaelynn, Megan (Jared) Hartwig and their daughter Mya, Nick (Amanda Lynn) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Paul, Don and Bob Borglum.

Funeral Services will be 11am Monday, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 2-5pm Sunday, AT THE CHURCH, located at 8th and Clay, and also one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
