John Lynn Haley was born January 18, 1937, in Independence, Iowa, son of Warren and Estrid (Johnson) Haley. The family moved to Jesup to farm and John attended Country School, then graduated from Jesup High School. John worked for Deyo/Daystar Jewelers where he produced and designed custom jewelry.

He met Carolyn Dickinson at a roller skating rink and the two were married on August 14, 1960 at Walnut Street Baptist Church. They enjoyed camping as a family with their two children. Following his retirement, John and Carolyn travelled to Washington DC and Florida. He also enjoyed tractor pulls. John was very knowledgeable about many different topics and was a member of MENSA. He could find common ground to talk with anybody. John consistently lived out his faith with a humble and grateful spirit – a true peacemaker

John passed away at Shell Rock Healthcare Center on Monday, April 9, 2018, at the age of 81 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn in 2011; and his sister, Annette Valdez.

John is survived by his son, Darren Haley of Waterloo; his daughter, Crystal (Andy) Jones of Waverly; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Conrad of Sumner; 5 grandchildren: Alicia, Noelle, Chloe, Jake and Grace; 3 great-grandchildren: Corbin, Mason and Oliver; and his brother, Paul (Delores) Haley of Jesup.

John will be dearly missed. Memorials may be directed to the family.
