Biography--

Elizabeth “Betty” J. Hummel, 95 of Waterloo, Iowa, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

She was born, September 13, 1922, the daughter of Clyde and Anna Fell Anton, in La Porte City, Iowa. She graduated from La Porte City High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State Teachers College.

During World War II she worked at Hinson's Mfg. and John Deere.

Betty married Donald Hummel April 15, 1950, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Waterloo. He passed away April 18, 2001.

Betty was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend to many. She was member of First United Methodist Church and Friendship Village Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and making afghans. During the time her children were growing up, she volunteered at their schools and at church. She also loved to play cards and interact with friends and staff at Friendship Village, and she made the best pies on the planet.

Betty is survived by a son, Dan (Sue) Hummel, Cedar Falls, IA; a daughter, Pam Barile, Bay Port, NY; grandson, Neil (Stephanie) Brown, Holtsville, NY; a granddaughter, Annie (Buzz) McDevitt, Morton, PA; and by great‑grandchildren, Maggie and Jack, and a third great-grandchild, Zach, soon to arrive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Nona Harvester, a brother Myron Anton, an infant brother Mark Anton, and son-in-law Dave Barile.
