Biography--

Allene Chambers, 93, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Windhaven, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.

Allene was born December 5, 1924 daughter of Archie V. and Echo M. (Bateman) Ashton. She attended country schools in the Harmony, Minnesota area, and graduated from Harmony High School.

She married Paul David Chambers on November 20, 1944. He died in March, 2002. They were the parents of one son, David, who died in 1967 at the age of 20, and one daughter, Sherri.

Allene worked at John Deere for 7 years in the 1950’s, and was happy to acquire many friends during the more than 25 years that she sold Avon.

She was very active in her church, and shared her faith while leading many Bible Study classes, both in the Cedar Valley and in Texas, where she and Paul wintered for many years.

Allene is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Steve) Mingus of Waterloo, Iowa; by two grandchildren, Troy Mingus of Mason City, Iowa, and Jennifer (Brian) Hawley of Jesup, Iowa; by six great-grandchildren: Jade, Alyssa and Aiden Hawley, Faith and Addison Mingus, and Christian Davis; by several nieces and nephews; and by special friends Dave and Carol McCullough and Lynda Trewin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; her son, David; three brothers: Earl, Frank and Art Ashton; and one sister, Evelyn Lietz.

Allene was friend to everyone she met and made everyone feel loved and special. Those meeting her for the first time, or multiple times, walked away after the encounter with their burdens lightened and their faith strengthened. If one hesitated to let her pay for a meal, she wasn’t above using the phrase “Don’t take away my blessing” to get her way. Always said with a twinkle in her eye and grin on her face.

This was her motto:

“Why God Made Hugs”

Everyone was meant to share
God’s all abiding love and care
So God made hugs a special sign
A symbol of His love divine
A circle of our open arms
To hold in love and keep out harms
A tiny bit of Heaven above
That signifies his perfect love.
