September 11, 1918 - March 19, 2018

Verna Mae Dengler 99, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Monday, March 19, peacefully at home.

She was born September 11, 1918, in LaPorte City, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Margaret Smith Foss. She married Howard Dengler January 27, 1940, in Waterloo. He died December 27, 1984.

Verna Mae graduated from East High School and then attended Gates Business College. She was a sales representative for Avon for 57 years and was a member of the Avon President’s Club. She and her husband were charter members of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Survived by: two daughters; Pam Dengler of Cedar Falls, and Judy Dengler of Palm Desert, Calif.; a son, Jim Dengler of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, Tom Dengler; three brothers, Elwin, Glenn, and Harold Foss; a sister, Eileen Purdy; and a daughter-in-law, Artie Dengler.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and 7:00 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Verna Mae’s first love was her family. She loved a good card game, going to the casino to play the penny slots, and winning. She loved Avon and her friends stopping by to enjoy a fresh pot of coffee and cookies out of oven. She will be missed.
