Obituary for David L. Pals

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – David Lee Pals, 85, of Cedar Falls died Monday, February 5, 2018, at his home.

He was born June 9, 1932 in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Joe and Mourine (Lieuwen) Pals. He married Marlys Faye Mullins on August 10, 1963, in Corwith, Iowa.

He graduated from Belmond High School in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed as a Dyno Operator at the John Deere Product Engineering Center for 28 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; by three daughters: Sue (Dan) Hubacek of Cedar Rapids, Deb (Dave) Cunningham and Teresa (Kurt) Pietsch, both of Forest City; five grandchildren: Matt Gersema of Cedar Rapids, Tara (Joby) Baugh of Las Vegas, NV, Justin Gersema of Ames, Ryan (Jenni) Cunningham of Okoboji, and Kyle (Kelli) Cunningham of Adel; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Carroll of Northwood, and Carol (Roland) Lerdal of Berne, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Pals.

Services: Saturday, Feb. 10 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with burial in Belmond Cemetery, Belmond. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 Honor Guard and the US Air Force Funeral Honors Detail. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
