James Curry Swehla was born on October 7, 1976, in Waterloo, the son of Doug Hammond and Rhonda Swehla. He received his GED through Hawkeye Community College. James was a millwright for Cedar Valley Mechanical and a maintenance supervisor for Tyson’s. He enjoyed all kinds of motorcycles and anything else with wheels. He especially loved hanging out with his friends and family.

James died at the age of 41 on February 2, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications of a stroke. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dale and Bonnie Swehla.

James is survived by his mother, Rhonda (Nick) Brustkern; his father, Doug Hammond; seven children, Kane Swehla, Ethan Swehla, Jordyn Swehla, Zachary Swehla, Hannah Swarts, Hazel Swehla, and Xander Swehla; a sister, Alex Hammond; and several cousins.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
