Born in Salem, Arkansas
Resided in Finchford, Iowa

Veda C. Pines, age 73, of rural Finchford, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.

Veda was born on February 9, 1935 in Salem, Arkansas, the daughter of Charley and Mary (Reeves) Young. At a young age her family moved to Finchford, Iowa where she was raised and graduated from the Finchford High School in 1953. She then attended Hawkeye Community College in their nursing program.

On April 27, 1956 Veda was united in marriage to William Pines at the Finchford Community Bible Church in Finchford, Iowa. During her life Veda worked for Tasco Company, Shell Rock, for Tally Ho Dressing, and for Black Hawk County Health Care.

Veda's enjoyments included fishing and swimming at their summer home on Lake Delhi, needlework, collecting over 400 cabbage patch dolls, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Veda's memory is honored by her husband, William Pines of Finchford, her son Dean (Letitia) Pines of Finchford, her grandchildren, Joshua (Tara) Pines and Tera (Dusty) O'Hare all of Houston, Texas, two great grandsons, Aiden Dean Pines and Kellen Thomas O'Hare, two sisters, Zella (Bob) Piper of Cedar Falls and Shirley (Dean) Redman of Cedar Rapids, and a sister-in-law, Gladys Young of Waterloo.

Her parents, a brother, Charles Young, and two sisters, Olive Louise Young and Freda Fasse, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 29 at the Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls with Pastor John Fuller officiating. Interment will follow at the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where family will greet friends from 2 until 6 P.M.
