Obituary for Raymond Knapp

Raymond R. Knapp, 80, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, January 28 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

Raymond was born November 5, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Devere and Florence Affeldt Knapp. He married Kathryn Buttolph August 14, 1957 in Riceville, Iowa.

He was employed with John Deere Waterloo Works for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a US Navy veteran serving in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; three sons: Doug of Waterloo, Randy (Jeannie) of Meeker, Okla. and Jeff of Spencer, Okla.; two daughters, Rebecca Graves of Stewartville, Minn. and Kimberly (Keith) Phillips of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Tracie Meyer (Brian), Andrew Krieger, Matthew Krieger, Brittney Edwards (A. J.), Dustin “Rooster” Phillips (Heather), Katlyn DeHaven (Colton), Kayla Hansen (Dan), Shawn “Fred” Hansen (Karina) and Dillon Graves; ten great-grandchildren, Paige, Dalton, BJ, Izaiah, Calla Jo “CJ”, Mason, Milynn, Archer, Shay and Brandi Rae.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623 and the U. S. Navy Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday and an hour before services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Northern Iowa Hospice.

Ray was an avid Nascar enthusiast. He loved building and creating many things, spending time with his children, and picking on all his grandkids and great grandkids.
