Biography--

William R. “Bill” Hughes, 84, of Delhi,Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo,Iowa, died Friday, December 8, 2017 at Good Neighbor Society in Manchester, Iowa.

Bill was born November 28, 1933 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of T. Bishop and Ethel Williams Hughes. He married Bonnie Sheldahl June 24, 1961 in Waterloo Iowa.

Bill graduated from Good Hope High School in Good Hope, Illinois, he attended Western University in Macomb for 2 years. He was then drafted in to the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was assigned to Germany to play Baseball. Following his service he received a Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture from the University of Illinois at Champaign in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Bill worked as a Sales Supervisor for Rath Packing Company for 6 years, then as a Salesman and General Manager for Town and Country Home Improvement for 41 years before retiring in 2004. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. He was a 60 year member of the Waterloo Elks Lodge, and a member of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Delhi, a son Brian (Ann) Hughes of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Lori (Louis) Vasquez of Boston; five grandchildren: Joshua, Jacquelyn, Jennifer, and Jillian Hughes and Hugh Kelly; sisters Wilma Lewis of Good Hope, IL, Sharon (Bob) Walters of Coal Valley, IL, Shirley Woolam of Macomb, IL; and a brother Robert (Sandy) Hughes of Knoxville, TN.

He is preceded in death by sons Craig in infancy, and David, sisters Olive (Herb) Hodges, Alice (George Robert "Bob") Welch, and Helen (Charles) Coulter; brothers in law Eugene "Gene" Lewis and Richard "Dick" Woolam.
