Obituary for Mary E. Ambrose

Mary E. Ambrose 94, of Waterloo, formerly of Gilbertville died Wednesday December 6, 2017 at Denver Sunset Home.

She was born July 14, 1923, in Waucoma, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Doyle Burke. She married Frederick Ambrose January 25, 1941, in Waucoma. He died in 1967.

Mary was employed with Allen Hospital. She was a long-time member of St. Edward parish and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Survived by: six sons, Tom (Lorista) Ambrose of New Hartford, Pat (Carol) Ambrose of Jesup, Michael (Cheri) of Austin, Texas, James Ambrose of Waterloo, Joseph (Louella) Ambrose of Waterloo, and John (Denise) Ambrose of Waterloo; four daughters, Mary Lynn (William) Young of Waterloo, Marsha (Terry) Gibbs of Waterloo, Rebecca (Mike) McKenzie of Jacksonville, Fl, and Lisa Ambrose of Austin, Texas; a brother, William (Carol) Burke of Waucoma; a sister, Patsy Lynn of Cedar Rapids; 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her husband; a son Terrence Ambrose; two brothers, John Burke and James Burke, two sisters, Florence Goepel and Frances Trewin; and a granddaughter Kandle Burrage.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 28, at St. Edward Catholic Church with inurnment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gilbertville to follow. A visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
