Biography--

June Huting, 90, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, on Friday, November 24, 2017. 

June was born on March 11, 1927 in Waverly, Iowa, daughter of Lester and Ruth (Sherman) Diestler.  She graduated from Waverly High School in 1945. June then attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1945, and later earned her bachelor’s degree from UNI in 1972.

June married Frederick "Fred" Arthur Huting on October 16, 1948, in Waterloo.

As a young adult, she attended a Dallas, Texas aviation school and earned her commercial pilot’s license. She was also a YWCA swimming instructor for 13 years, and after finishing her bachelor’s degree, she taught at Hudson Elementary School for 13 years. June was vice president of Hudson Education Association and a member of Iowa Reading Teacher’s Association. She retired in 1986.

June then moved to Clayton, Iowa, living there for 30 years. She wintered in Florida and spent summers at their cabin in Crane Lake, MN. They restored a 100-year-old log cabin, and it has been in the family for more than 20 years. She moved back to Waterloo in 2009.

June loved outdoor activities, including camping, water skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking, and canoeing. She also enjoyed reading, handwork, swimming, and family get-togethers. June also fostered a love of travel with her husband; they backpacked through nine European countries and part of the Appalachian Trail. She volunteered many hours of her time in Waterloo and Guttenberg as well as Florida.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Waverly until adulthood and then was a member of Kimball Avenue Methodist Church in Waterloo. She also attended Peace Lutheran Church in Clayton.

June is survived by her husband, Frederick "Fred" Huting of Waterloo; three sons: Mark (Cynthia) Huting of Minneapolis, Paul (Melinda) Huting of Waterloo, and Dean (Cindy) Huting of Amery, WI; 9 grandchildren: Sara, Joel (Becky), Kathy (Tim), Jeff, David (Almira), Keely, Lael (Kyle), Logan, and Matthew; and five great‑grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a grandson, Daniel Huting; and a brother, Duane Diester.
