CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Donald E. Scheer, 88, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Western Home Communities – Stanard Assisted Living.

He was born March 14, 1929, in Wells County, North Dakota, the son of Elmer and Johanna (Jordan) Scheer. He married Jean Kehe on September 13, 1952 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2012.

He earned his BA degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1952 and was an engineer with Deere and Company, both in Moline, IL, and Waterloo.

Donald is survived by three sons: Jim (Barb) of Northfield, MN, Bruce (Cindy) and Richard (Troy Greenwood), both of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Cindy (Al) Mennenga of Waterloo and Kathleen (Bill) Hesse of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren: Sandy (Matt) Wickman, Audrey (Tom) McGarry, Adam Scheer, Steven (Charlene “Charlie”) Hesse, and Jeff Heckroth; and by six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Scheer; and by two sisters, Kay Hatten and Jeannette Schilling.

Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, November 6, at a Celebration of Life Luncheon held at Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the Western Home Foundation or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Don enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family dinners, picnics, and holiday celebrations brought him much joy. He loved farming and the UNI Panthers.
