Saturday, October 28 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Kimball Avenue in Waterloo followed by Full Military Honors accorded by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers VFW Post 1623 and the US Navy Honors Detail.

Biography--

Carroll Dean Johnson, age 88, of Waterloo, died Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born May 1, 1929 in Newburg, Iowa, the son of Karl Gustav and Katherine Elizabeth (Lauber) Johnson. Carroll graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1948. Carroll was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean War and served in the Naval Reserves until retiring in 1989.

He was united in marriage with Billie Jean Miller on July 7, 1957 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Carroll was a pressman for the Waterloo Courier for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member of the men’s breakfast Bible study group and also served as an usher and a greeter. Carroll was a lifetime member, past Commander and honor guard member of Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138; he volunteered at Community Meals, Covenant Medical Center and drove the Care-A-Van.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean of Waterloo; four daughters: Kelley (Wayne) Quirk of Ellensburg, WA, Lori Moore of Rochelle, IL, Stephanie (Greg) Reeves of Madison Lake, MN and Jill Johnson of Galesville, WI; 11 grandchildren, Chloe (Clay) Solum, Anthony, Kaitlin and Carly Quirk, Erica Moore, Cole (Brittany) and Ethan (Taelor) Countryman, Austin and Courtney Reeves, Elliot and Aidan Henscheid; seven great-grandchildren, Cayden, Keegan, Kaliyah, Rowen, Dennin, Chase and Cali; a brother, Richard (Yvonne) Johnson of Traer, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Juanita Johnson of Waverly, Iowa, and Vivian Johnson of Waterloo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Grace Countryman; six brothers: Walter, Robert, Karl, Leroy, Kenneth and Gust, Jr. Johnson; and three sisters: Edith Johnson, Ruth Trost and Margaret Walker.
