Biography--

James R. Conner, 90, of Waterloo, formerly of Clarksville died Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

James was born August 18, 1927 in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Bessie Watson Conner. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1944 and attended Gates Business College. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Barnstable during WW II.

James married Gloria Mae Huffman, May 16, 1948 at the Waterloo Church of the Brethren. He was a bookkeeper for Headford Brothers & Hitchens Foundry for 2 years and then worked as an Inventory Control Supervisor for John Deere for 33 years.

James was a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church and helped as an Aide with Dale Carnegie Classes.

Survivors include his wife Gloria of Waterloo, a daughter Cheri Harmsen and her husband Jerry of Waterloo, a son Kevin Conner and his wife Laurie of Urbandale. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and his twin sister, Jean Miller of Aplington.

James is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Walter G. Best; a brother in infancy; and a brother in law Rueben Miller.
