Obituary for Lucille "Lu" Larsen

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Lucille “Lu” Larsen, 93, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, September 28, 2017, at the Western Home Communities – Nation Cottage.

She was born January 18, 1924, in Manchester, Iowa, daughter of Elmer and Ada (Cramer) Reed. She married Bernard Larsen on June 22, 1943, in Waterloo and they later divorced.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended Dickenson Secretarial School in Waterloo. She was a secretary with Cedar Falls Construction Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1976.

Survived by: two daughters, Peg (Hank) Brown of Cedar Falls and Pat (Ken) Budke of Waterloo; six grandchildren: Malloree (Bill) Buchanan, Morgan Brown and Natalie Brown, Shelly (Aron) Fleischmann, Josh (Katie) Budke, and Luke (Meghan) Budke; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Lorenzen of Blooming Prairie, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her sister, Onnolee Humphrey.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, at the Homer Larsen Chapel at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Grandma Lu taught her family the incredible gifts of generosity, thoughtfulness, and love filled with grace and humility. She always said grandparents are God’s favorite people; giving them children to love and grandchildren to love them back. What a blessing she was to her family and everyone who knew her.
