Obituary for Jack R. Fortune

WATERLOO,IOWA - Jack R. Fortune, 85, of Waterloo, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 19, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harley C. and Irene West Fortune. He married Betty Marshall June 1, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Jack served in the United States Army. He worked as a carpenter with Sells Construction and later Cardinal Construction, finally working in maintenance at GMAC for 10 years, retiring in 1994.

Survived by: his wife of Waterloo; two sons, Warren L. (Carol) and Rick L., both of Waterloo; three grandsons: John L. (Lyndsey) Fortune, Michael W. Fortune, and Shawn R. Fortune; and sister, Beverly Greenway of Waterloo.

Preceded by: parents; sister, Judith Anderson, and daughter-in-law, Janet Crystal Fortune
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls, with interment in the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Full military honors provided by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post# 49 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.richardsonfuneralservice.com.

Jack’s first love was his family and then working with and constructing anything from wood. He loved the outdoors, especially camping.
