WATERLOO, IOWA – Guy Wray Jr, 94, of Waterloo, and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.
He was born May 8, 1923 in Parnell, Missouri, son of Guy Wray Sr and Lela Grace (Carmichael) Wray. He married Marlys Webrand on September 14, 1947 in New Hartford, Iowa.
He served in the United States Army with the 36th Infantry Division during World War II and was employed with John Deere, Clay Equipment and then Shield-Bantam, retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls, where he served as a deacon, and was currently a member of Greenhill Baptist Church in Cedar Falls.
Survived by: his wife of Waterloo; a son, Ronnie (Jody) Wray of Tripoli; two daughters, Sandy (Dan Scoggin) Walters and Dawn (Sam) DeBord, both of Evansdale; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with twins on the way; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Robert (Dena) Wray of Cedar Falls, Dean (Carmen) Wray of The Villages, FL, and Hugh (Mary Lee) Wray of Loveland, CO; a sister, Doris Loger of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Twila Wray of Farmington, NM, and Linda Wray of Princeton, WV.
Preceded in death by: three brothers: Paul, Bill and Doyle Wray; and a sister, Mary Taylor
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, at Greenhill Baptist Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice or the family.
