CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Dorothy Marie Sauer, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Western Home Communities South Cottage.

She was born February 9, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Eckhardt and Eleanor (Shepersky) Christensen. She married Neil Sauer on June 7, 1952 in Waterloo. He died May 8, 2014.

She worked at Dimitris Smorgasbord and then at Montgomery Ward until their closing. She was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association for many years and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006. In addition to bowling, Dorothy loved sewing, crocheting, and many other crafts. She enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with her husband and family.

Survived by: four daughters, Patricia (Merv) Howard of Waterloo, Denise (Steve) Pfaff of Indianola, IA, Jacque (Kevin) Karsten of Waterloo, and Annette (Paul) Reker of New Ulm, MN; one son, Jeff (Pam) Sauer of Waterloo; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Christensen of Reinbeck, and Walter (Lorene) Christensen of Waterloo; and two sisters, Karen (Mike) Laquatte of Cocoa, FL, and Fran (Roger) Whorton of Spear Fish, SD.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Tom and Larry Christensen; and a sister, Elaine Rich.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo.

Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and also for one hour prior to the service at the church.
