Biography--

Joseph “Joe” Sailor, Sr., 90, of Waterloo, died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at his home, surrounded by family.

Joe was born August 1, 1927 in Cuthbert, Georgia, the son of John and Sally (Marlin) Sailor. He married Viola Washington on February 11, 1947 in Attapulgus, Georgia.

Joe was an industrial worker for Chamberlin Manufacturing for 20 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Viola of Waterloo; two sons: Joseph (Debbie) Sailor, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Jim (Rhonda) Sailor of Waterloo; six daughters: Tessie (Johnny) Hoskins, Linda (Sam) Thomas, Carmen (Rev. Keever) Murphy, all of Waterloo, Tamara “Penny” (Rev. Sam) Mingo of Orlando, Florida, Shena (David) Sailor Hodges of Houston, Texas, and Fredia Sailor Monroe of Quincy, Florida; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jasper (Janie) Sailor of Quincy, Florida.

Joe was preceded in death by: three brothers: Cleveland Sailor, Henry Sailor, and Mose Sailor; five sisters: Addie Kay Williams, Johnnie Jackson, Rosie Mae Lee, Julia Singleton, and Annie Ree Wright; two daughters: Sally Mae Sailor and Hope Sailor; three sons: Lennon “Snooky” Sailor, John Wesley Sailor, and Larry Sailor.
