David Roy Browne, professional grade-A [CENSORED], of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on August 25, 2017 of complications of stroke and pneumonia at the age of 72. He died in the manner of his choosing surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and sister, enjoying sips of his favorite bubbly burp – Coke; a raucous game of trivia, and much laughter.

David was born in Waterloo, Iowa on August 17, 1945 to Roy and Agnes (Humpal) Browne. He attended Columbus High School and University of Northern Iowa and was employed by John Deere, working as jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none for 39 years before retiring in 2004. He married Karlene Kischer on December 27, 1986 and they recently celebrated 30 years of marriage.

David was into all things model trains (including making his children wait around while he looked at them); classical and all other kinds of music; NASCAR racing (a.k.a. the time in which he became completely oblivious to anything going on around him including his children being in the corner); photography (with a strong preference for family and rolls and rolls of trains; seriously, we have you covered if you ever want a picture of a train); and trivia, board, and card games. He was a space nerd, a member of the “David Browne” club, an honorary Girl Scout, a connoisseur of all movies (especially B-movies), and a purveyor of age-inappropriate movie showings. He should be remembered as a survivor of living in a house with 5 women and 1 bathroom. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Agnes; his sister, June, and his mother-in-law, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Karlene Kischer-Browne of Waterloo; the mother of his eldest children, Laura Browne of Vadnais Heights, MN; a son, Layne Browne (Karen) of Cincinnati, OH; five daughters: Dayna Holm (Jason) of Waterloo; Melanie Gylling (Darin) of Shoreview, MN; Kyra Hayes (David) of Minneapolis, MN; Nora Kischer-Browne of Waterloo, and Amelia Kischer-Browne (Daniel) of Waterloo; 6.5 grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Parr (Craig) of Waterloo; as well as his father-in-law, Kent Kischer of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Kim Kischer-Larson (Keith) of Cedar Falls and Keithlyn Pettit of Waterloo; and 1 brother-in-law Bivan Kischer (Leslie) of Highland Park, IL.

Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Community Playhouse.
