January 6, 1932 - July 23, 2017

Leo E. Ogden, 85, of Cedar Falls died at the Martin Center, Western home Communities on Sunday, July 23, 2017.

He was born January 6, 1932 in Fremont, Nebraska, son of Leo and Marian (Watts) Ogden. Leo graduated from Leeds High School, Sioux City, Iowa in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he worked in electronics and guided missiles until 1958.

He married Barbara Jean Pitner in 1958 and they were later divorced. They adopted two children, David and Denise. In 1976, Leo married Joan F. Holliday Smith and they have enjoyed 41 years of married life, shared work experience, shared retirement pursuits, travel, family and friends. Leo attended Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa where he was elected to the National Honorary Society in Psychology, graduating in 1961.

He enrolled at the University of South Dakota where he earned a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology in 1963. Leo was employed by the Black Hawk County Board of Education which later became Area Education Agency 267. He served as a school psychologist and a special education administrator for the AEA. Leo retired in 1995 following 32 years of service.

He was a member of the National Health Service Providers in Psychology, a long-time member of the Iowa Psychological Association, and held a license in Psychology from the state of Iowa. Leo was also a lifetime member of the Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Ogden, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one son, David James (Eman) Ogden, of Naples, Florida; one daughter, Denise Joy Conaway (Joy Hogan), of Elk Run HeighIs, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Bella Miller, Cody Conaway, Sarah Ogden, and Hannah Ogden.

Leo was proceeded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Geater.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. August 9, 2017, at Windcove, Western Home Communities. Visitation will be one hour before services. Cedar Falls AVETS Post 49 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Western Home Foundation. Dahl- Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
