Jesup, Iowa - Richard Lee "Smokey" Youngblut, 65 years old of Jesup, died Friday, July 7, 2017 at ABCM Rehabilitation Centers - West Campus, Independence, Iowa.

He was born October 24, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John P. "Jack" Youngblut and Geraldine H. (Weber) Youngblut. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1969.

On August 19, 1972, he was united in marriage to Diane Marie Vogel at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. They lived south of Hazleton, Iowa, for a number of years before making their home north of Jesup.

Smokey was a farmer, and served on the Jesup Cooperative and later the ECIC Cooperative Board for a combined 18 years. He was a member of the Hook in Liner Sportsman Club in Littleton, enjoyed St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and fishing with the gang, including at Devil's Lake. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

Smokey is survived by his wife, Diane of Jesup, IA; two sons, Darrin (Mandi) Youngblut of Volga, IA, Dean (Amber) Youngblut of Jesup, IA; six grandchildren, Delaney, Dawson and Harper Youngblut, also, Foxe, Dax and Alexa Youngblut; three brothers, Pat (Mary) Youngblut of Independence, IA, Ed (Lisa) Youngblut of Jesup, IA, Chris (Sandy) Youngblut of Raymond, IA; five sisters, Diane Youngblut of Jesup, IA, Carolyn (Bob) Lohman of Motley, MN, Jane Toothman of Aitkin, MN, LuAnn (Al) Butkiewicz of Omro, WI, Renae (Kevin) Wellman of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mike, William and John Youngblut and one sister, Mary Youngblut.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 10th, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa and to St. Athanasius Church.
