Annabelle Oleson

Annabelle Jeanette Oleson, daughter of Warren “Allen” and Sylvia (Smith) Brogue, died at the age of 98 on June 10, 2017, at her home under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice (BHC) and her daughter, Janee.

She was born December 24, 1918, on the family farm near Shell Rock, Iowa. She graduated from Dike Consolidated High School in 1936 and was the last surviving member in her class. Annabelle went to Beauty School, working after graduation in Cedar Falls and Tama at a few beauty shops before buying her own shop in Dunkerton, Iowa. After several years, she moved her shop to Waterloo at 11th St. and what is now Hwy 218.

She married Albert Oleson on May 17, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. Annabelle and Albert owned and operated Oleson Homebuilders and Oleson Realty for decades. She was longtime member of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Board of Realtors, Good Sam Club, 1918 club (for women born in 1918), and the Giessen Sister City in Germany, traveling three times there and hosting their counterparts in Waterloo.

They regularly attended annual Navy reunions for the U.S.S. C.K. Bronson, where Albert served on a destroyer in World War II. Annabelle and Albert were very active in several antique car clubs in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Des Moines, traveling all over the Midwest in their antique cars. She loved to knit and crochet, helping Janee out with many craft projects over the past several years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2009, sister, Ethel Jones, and older brother, Roger Brogue.

Annabelle is survived by her three children – Larry (Pat) Oleson from Spirit Lake, Iowa; Janee Oleson (formerly Root and Hoff) of Evansdale; and Bette (George) Infeld of Oelwein, IA; three grandchildren, Craig (Kelly) Root of Woodbury, MN; Jon (Rachael) Root of Boulder, CO; and MaryAnn Infeld of Oelwein, IA; two step-grandchildren, Bill (Ann) Ruzicka of Owatonna, MN and Elizabeth (Quincy) McKinney of Junction City, KS; five great-grandchildren; four great-step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her two sisters, Ruth Brown of Grand Rapids, MN and Helen Bray of Cambridge, MN.

Visitation (10:00-11:00 a.m.) and services (11:00 a.m.) will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Parrott and Wood at 965 Home Plaza near San Marnan Drive and Ansborough Avenue in Waterloo, IA, with interment immediately following at the Garden of Memories on Highway 63 North in Waterloo.

Annabelle was a good soul and a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
