Gary Lee Clements was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on April 6, 1942, and was adopted by Clifford and Laura (Rohrissen) Clements. He attended schools in Waterloo graduating from East High School with the Class of 1958. Gary was married to JaVoan West. To this union was born two daughters: Wendy and Kelly. The couple later divorced. Gary was united in marriage to Lydia Clements on July 1, 1972, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

He was a member and helped to build Christ Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Gary worked as an engineering clerk at John Deere PEC for over 33 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed boating and fishing with Lydia. They spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona for 24 years, until making it their permanent home in August 2016.

Gary passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa at the age of 76 years.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Cliff and Laura Clements; his birth parents, Forest and Beverly Shaulis; and Lydia. Gary is survived by his daughters: Kelly and Bryon Lewis from Midvale, Idaho and Wendy and Todd Matthews, from Tacoma, Washington; granddaughters, Jamie Loucks, Erin Matthews; grandsons, Alex and Zach Matthews; a great-grandson, Brodie, of Midvale, Idaho; sisters, Karen (Jim) Striker (their son, Shane) Barb and Amy; a three half-siblings; and a great friend, Cory Allspach of Waterloo.
