Janette Rae (Schmitt) Peverill was born in July 30, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Gertrude “Bette” (Kruse) Schmitt. She grew up on Waterloo and graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville with the Class of 1960.

Janette married her best friend, John Robert Peverill, at St. Athanasius Church in Jesup on September 24, 1960. They were happily married for 56 years. Janette was a homemaker and in addition to her family, enjoyed cross-stitching and reading mystery novels. She was the queen of “cooking avoidance” and loved eating out whenever possible with her own retired chef, John.

Janette passed away unexpectedly at the age of 74 years on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Unity Point Health-Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Kaleb Peverill; four brothers: Michael ”Mike, James “Jim”, Thomas “Tom” and Steven “Steve” Schmitt; two sisters-in-law: Cheryl (Wood) Schmitt and Margaret “Peggy” (Nielson) Schmitt; one brother-in-law, Vern Kalkbrenner; one niece, Melissa Schmitt; and one great-niece, Bailey Schmitt.

Janette is survived by her husband, John of Evansdale; one son, Todd (LuAnn) Peverill of Glenwood, IA; by two daughters, Tammy Peverill of Phoenix, AZ and Terri (Luis) Norero of Jacksonville, FL; by three sisters: Joyce Kalkbrenner of Waterloo, Barbara “Barb” (Jim) Sebetka of Jesup, and Karen (Joe) Ciesielski of Independence; by two brothers, Jerome “Jerry” of Bay City, TX and Donald “Don” (Nancy) Schmitt of Waterloo; by six grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alternatives Pregnancy Center, 1006 Decathlon Drive, Waterloo, IA 50701
