Biography--

Robert J. “Bob” Garthoff, age 73, of Washburn, Iowa, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, of complications due to cancer.

He was born March 13, 1944, in Waterloo, the son of Christopher and Ethel (Schuetz) Garthoff. Bob was united in marriage with Donna Roster and they were later divorced. He has spent the last 30 years with his significant other Carol Riggle.

Bob worked for John Deere and Co and Performance Automotive in Waterloo. He lived for several years in Colorado and worked as a car salesman. Bob enjoyed working on cars and in his younger years loved drag racing. He liked to watch NASCAR races on television and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.

Survivors include his significant other, Carol Riggle of Washburn; two daughters, Marcia Davis of Springfield, MO and Christine Beckel of Ft. Worth, TX; four sons: Jeff Garthoff of Lees Summitt, MO, Duane Heinen, Mike Heinen and Rory (Christy) Riggle, all of La Porte City; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a brother, Tom (Rose) Garthoff of Denver, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rick Heinen; his sister, Karen Schares and two brothers in infancy.
