CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Evelyn L. Silver, 99, of Cedar Falls died Monday, May 29, 2017 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.
She was born November 24, 1917, in Webster County, Iowa, daughter of Albert and Antoinette (Walrod) Bakey. She married Gordon Silver in 1937 in Hudson, Iowa. He died November 1984.
She graduated from Barnum Consolidated School in 1936 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She co-owned and operated several gas stations, Silvers’ Café, and Silvers’ Ladies Apparel in Cedar Falls, with her husband. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Falls, where she was Past President of Presbyterian Women’s Association and served on the Board of Deacons.
Survived by: five grandchildren: Tracy (Bret) Pettyjohn, Dan Forker, Jeffery (Marla) Silver, Matthew (Cheryl) Silver and Sean (Shannon) Silver; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; an “adopted” daughter-in-law, Rita Durchenwald; and good friends, Joe and Rita Galloway.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Kay Forker; a son, John Silver; three sisters, Florence Bakey, Fern Brown and Ila Gordon; and a brother, William Bakey.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3rd at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls with burial in the Finchford Cemetery. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Memorials may be directed to the church or donor’s choice.
