Howard R. Bahls, 91, of Waterloo, formerly of Rockwell City, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Friendship Village Pavillion.
He was born May 30, 1925 in Rockwell City, son of Emil and Esther Schoepke Bahls. Howard graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1943 and Iowa State University in 1951. He married Darlene Sundell August 23, 1950 in Rockwell City.
He worked for John Deere for 36 years, retiring in 1987 as Project Engineer at PEC; Howard then worked on contract at John Deere for nine years. Howard served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II at Roswell, New Mexico and honorably discharged with rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Bahls of Waterloo; three sons, Dr. Fred (Dr. Donna) Bahls of Clive, IA, Jim Bahls of Pleasanton, CA, and Ken (Megan) Bahls, of Mason City, IA; one daughter: Beverly (Wayne) Bahls Munsterman of Pella, IA; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Shenna), Lia, Jake, Christina, Rachel, Rebecca, Julia, Isaiah, Meira, and Elijah; one great‑grandson, Kaiden and one brother, Roger Bahls.
