James “Jim” Allen Payton, 79, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, on Friday, April 21, 2017.
Jim was born on April 3, 1938 in Ellendale, North Dakota, the son of Harold Roy and Florence Bell Buchanan Payton.
He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1957 and served in the United States Army.
Jim married Sandra "Sandy" Mitchell Reinier on October 4, 1969 in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on July 29, 2011.
He was a fire equipment operator for Waterloo Fire Rescue retiring in 1995 after 32 1/2 years. After retirement, Jim and Sandy moved to Las Vegas and he worked at a Chevy dealership driving a courtesy bus for nine years. They later moved to Texas.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Shelly (David) Mince of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren, Micah, Taylor (Brandon Schriner), Shawn, and Cheyanne; and two great-granddaughters, Allison and Ryleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Laurie Bias; a sister Bonnie, Warmuth; and three brothers: Harold, Franklin, and William “Bill” Payton.
