Geraldine A. “Geri” Abernathey, 68, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

She was born August 6, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Ora and Geraldine Ray Watson. She married James Abernathey June 13, 1975 in Galena, Ill.

Geri owned and operated Craft Magic and the Little Shop of Treasures, retiring in 2000. She and her husband have run End of the Trail Entertainment for the last 15 years.

Survivors include: her husband; four sons: James C.C. (Jennifer) Abernathey and William J. Abernathey, both of Waterloo, Theodore J. Abernathey of Des Moines and Cory J. Abernathey of Evansdale; three daughters: Nadine S. (John) Walker of Des Moines, Dawn L. (Edward Alexander) Abernathey and Melissa A. Schwab both of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; a brother, Allen Watson of Waterloo; and two sisters, Mary Gruver and Joan (Dick) Richter, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Cylena Henkle and three brothers, Edward and Jim Place and Leroy Watson.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Oneida Cemetery, Clutier. Public visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and for an hour before services on Tuesday.
