Gertrude Ardith “Teddy” Van Erem was born February 4, 1920 in Gary, Minnesota: the daughter of Carl and Nora (Albertson) Ysen.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Van Erem at the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Gary, Minnesota. Teddy worked at Rath’s during the war, then spent her time as a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, crocheting and fishing.

Teddy loved to write letters to her family. She was very active at Christ Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, and as a member of the Mary-Martha Society.

Teddy passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Western Home, Elizabeth Martin Center at the age of 96.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Arthur Jr.; a brother Morris Ysen and two sisters, Clarice Griese and Mildred Swendsen.

Teddy is survived by her husband Arthur; by three daughters: Sharon (Robert) Rohrback of Roanoke, Virginia, Kathy (Mike) Whalen of Harpers Ferry, Iowa and Georgia (Randy) Henry of Cedar Falls; by five grandchildren: Sean (Bonnie) Whalen, Carey Whalen, Robin Rohrback, Laura Henry (Kristin Jahnke), Casey (Heather) Henry; by four great-grandchildren: Emma and Claire Whalen and Ginny and Olivia Henry; and by three sisters: Myrtle Schroeder, Joyce McCracken and Gladwyn (Bonnie) Gielau.

A memorial fund is being established.
