Michael “Howie” Dean Howard was born on March 29, 1952, in Waterloo, the son of Richard and Dorothy (Aten) Howard. He grew up in Evansdale and graduated from Waterloo East High in 1970.

On June 30, 1990, Howie was united in marriage to Juliet Gerholdt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Howie worked for John Deere for 32 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the UAW and the Iowa Treetop Cur and Fiest Club. Howie was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking care of his dogs. Howie died at the age of 64 on Friday, August 5, 2016, following a two year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Juanita Ames.

Howie is survived by his wife, Julie of Clutier; five daughters, Carie Aubrey of La Porte City, Amanda Nesby of Waterloo, Lucille Howard of Iowa City, Lillian Howard of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Sally Howard of Clutier; a brother, Richard Howard of Lone Rock; two sisters, Janet Wright and Connie Olsson both of Evansdale; and three grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, August 8, 2016, at Clutier Cemetery at 10:00 AM. Please direct memorials to Howie’s family.
