Robert Lee Briden was born on February 3, 1937, in Waterloo, the son of John and Rosina (Lippert) Briden. Robert graduated from Waterloo East High with the class of 1955. He then attended Grinnell College and Gates College. Robert partnered with his parents to grow WBM Marine, formerly known as Waterloo Boat and Motor.

He married Betty Lou Schutte. They had two sons and later divorced.

On July 13, 1972, Robert married Rosilda Munevar in Galina, Illinois. They renewed their vows on their 25th Anniversary at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Robert was involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Exchange Club and Jaycees. He started a businessmen’s group, BNI, now known as Cedar Valley Networking. Robert was also a consultant for Nikken.

In June of 2000, he was on the cover of Boat and Motor Dealer magazine. Robert was the founder and past president of Iowa Marine Dealers Association. He played the trumpet in a band, The Dancibles, also known as Lee Four, and was an usher for First Presbyterian Church and a deacon for Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was currently a member.

Robert died at the age of 79 on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy; and a grandson, Jesup Briden.

Robert is survived by his wife; two sons, Kevin Lee (Julie) Briden of Waterloo and John Ray (Tina) Briden of Dixon, Illinois; three grandchildren, Lynn (Joe) Bauer, Leah Hoffman and Jacob Briden; three step grandchildren, Layla (Jeremiah) Meyer, Bijan Noghrehkar and Matthew Noghrehkar; and four great-grandchildren, Kienen, Riley, Levi and Isaac.
