Wear Your Purple Attire to Honor Tom’s Love of Life! Monday, October 24, 2016 at 1:30 pm, at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Thomas Joseph Barbatti was born June 24, 1946, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of Henry Thomas and Elouise Jeanette (Elmore) Barbatti.

Tom’s family lived in many different places during his childhood including Liberia, West Africa. He graduated from Iowa City High in 1965 and attended the University of Northern Iowa where he played football all four years. He was named Honorable Mention All-American his Senior year. He graduated in 1970 and completed his Master’s Degree in 1971. He began his career at LaPorte City High school where he taught physical education and coached football, track and wrestling.

Tom left the teaching profession and entered into the financial brokerage industry working with Dain Bosworth and Piper Jaffray before establishing his own firm in Waterloo. He was most recently CEO of Net Worth Advisors in Waterloo, as well as President of Advantage Financial Group and CEO of AIM Investment Management.

Tom married Shallie Newhard in 1967, and they were later divorced. He married Joyce Picht on July 3, 1993. He served in many community leadership roles including past President of the UNI Athletic Club, past President of the Black Hawk County YMCA, past Chair of the Black Hawk County Compensation Committee, and many other volunteer fundraising endeavors.

Tom enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, and cooking. Most of all he loved spending time with his family!

Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Tracy (Nicki Thorn) Barbatti of Waterloo; son, Ross (Tara) Barbatti of Cedar Falls; granddaughters: Kenna, Madelynn and Gianna Barbatti of Cedar Falls; brother, Jim (Jeanne) Barbatti of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; nephew, Aaron (Virginia) Barbatti of Waltham, MA; niece, Samantha Limmer of Burnsville, MN; and sister-in-law, Julie (Steve) Schwarz of Wenatchee, WA. Tom was also blessed to have a very close extended family.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2016, from 2-5:00 pm at Parrott & Wood Funeral home in Waterloo and one hour prior to services. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cedar Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the family via Parrott & Wood Funeral Home for the establishment of a Memorial Fund.
