Kathie Jo Schroeder was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on March 14, 1957, daughter of Leonard and Marlene (Hughbanks) Hinkle. She was raised and attended schools in Waterloo graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1975. She attended Kaplan University where she studied Industrial Technology.

Kathie married Buddy Gunter; they had three children together and were later divorced. She married Gene Schroeder, who she had known and loved since high school. They divorced later but remained close. Kathie later married Eric Peppers; and they divorced, but remained good friends.

Kathie held various positions through the years at Omega Cabinets, Bertch Cabinets, as a Truck Driver with her CDL, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home as a CNA and medical assistant. She worked most recently in First Party Collections with CBE Companies of Waterloo.

In 2015 Kathie proudly graduated from Hawkeye Community College with her Associate of Arts Degree in Medical Administration. She had an internship at Covenant Medical Center. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, decorating her home, and watching her favorite TV shows, Blue Bloods and The Bachelorette. More than anything, Kathie treasured time with her family.

Kathie died unexpectedly at the age of 59 years on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at UPH Allen Memorial Hospital of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Buddy Allen Gunter; and her beloved Rottweiller, Princess.

Kathie is survived by two sons, Buddy Gunter of Waterloo and Justin Gunter of Waterloo; 1 daughter, Keira Gunter of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren: Tiffany, Terah, Jeremy, Justina, Deira, Justice, Aiden and Jayce; 2 great-grandchildren, Aleaha and Patience; 2 brothers, Jeff Hinkle of Marshalltown and John Wright of Waterloo; 2 sisters, Debbie Oliver of New London and Sue Bainter of Marshalltown; a stepfather, Martin Hughbanks of Waterloo; and her sweet and faithful cat, Sissy.
